카카오는 음성 기반 SNS '음(mm)'의 서비스 종료 후 카카오톡 오픈채팅에 유사한 기능을 지닌 '보이스룸'을 업데이트했다. 채팅 기반 메타버스의 첫걸음으로 야심 차게 등장했으나 기존 서비스와 차별화에 어려움을 겪으며 주목받지 못하는 모양새다.
