Leaders of S. Korea, Angola agree to boost economic, trade cooperation


South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Angolan President Joao Lourenco met in Seoul to discuss enhancing economic and trade cooperation between their countries. They signed a strategic framework aimed at promoting trade and investment, with a focus on areas such as merchant vessels and solar panels. President Yoon emphasized Korea's technology prowess and its potential to contribute to Angola's economic growth, particularly in the renewable energy sector. The meeting also resulted in the signing of five memoranda of understanding, including the bilateral Trade and Investment Promotion Framework, reflecting Angola's growth potential and abundant energy and resources. During the visit, the two countries also agreed to exchange information related to medical policies, promote their respective medicine industries, and cooperate on training medical professionals. Additionally, they will carry out exchange programs concerning staff and publications between their diplomatic academies and collaborate on law enforcement to address cybercrime, terrorism, and drug-related crimes. Angolan President Lourenco's visit included attending a wreath-laying ceremony at the Seoul National Cemetery and meeting with National Assembly Speaker Rep. Kim Jin-pyo, as well as holding a business forum and a conference with Angolan people living in Korea. This visit took place ahead of the upcoming Korea-Africa Summit scheduled for early June, signifying Korea's active policies toward Africa.
