New chief named to anti-corruption body

Oh Dong-woon has been selected as the new nominee for the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials by President Yoon Suk Yeol. The position had been vacant for approximately three months. Oh Dong-woon, a former judge and attorney, is set to lead the CIO, which is currently leading a significant investigation into the death of a Marine in July last year. This case led to the former defense minister, Lee Jong-sup, losing his appointment as ambassador to Australia in March. If Oh Dong-woon's appointment is successful, he will fill the top position at the CIO, which has been empty since its previous chief, Kim Jin-wook, left in January. The CIO was established in January 2021 during the previous Moon Jae-in administration as part of efforts to reform the country's prosecutorial service.
