48 African nations to join summit in Seoul next week

President Yoon Suk Yeol will welcome delegations from 48 African countries and 25 state leaders to Seoul for the first-ever multilateral summit between South Korea and African nations. The 2024 Korea-Africa Summit, scheduled for June 4-5, aims to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties between South Korea and Africa, reflecting the country's goal of becoming a global pivot. President Yoon is set to engage in formal talks with 25 African leaders, including holding official visits and meetings with several of them, culminating in a joint press conference with the Mauritanian leader under the tagline, "The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity." This summit represents a significant step in South Korea's strategic collaboration with African countries, with a focus on trade and investment, infrastructure projects, digital transformation, and stabilizing the supply of key materials from Africa for South Korean manufacturers. Additionally, South Korea plans to host a welcome dinner, a business summit, and will explore the possibility of hosting similar multilateral events with African countries every four or five years, aligning with the approach of other major powers in the Indo-Pacific region. President Yoon has already met with the leaders of 17 African countries, demonstrating South Korea's commitment to building relationships with nations across the African continent.
