[AFRICA FORUM] Herald forum ‘helps unlock potential’ for Korea-Africa partnership

South Korea and Africa are expected to further strengthen their partnership with the upcoming 2024 Korea-Africa summit, according to ruling party lawmakers-elect Kim Gunn and Yu Yong-weon. The two experts, who were elected in the April general election, emphasized the potential benefits for both regions during their attendance at the Africa Day 2024 Korea Business Forum. Kim highlighted the forum's role in unlocking the potential for deeper collaboration between South Korea and Africa, especially in light of South Korea's exclusion from the Group of Seven summit in June. He expressed optimism that the Korea-Africa summit could lead to greater recognition of South Korea as a global pivotal state. Yu emphasized the untapped potential of African economies as partners in the defense industry, noting that South Korea's arms exports have garnered attention and that Africa could offer a new market for such trade. He expressed hope that the forum would create more opportunities for cooperation with African countries in the defense and security sectors. Both lawmakers-elect underscored the significance of the upcoming summit in advancing the partnership between South Korea and Africa.
