AI Seoul Summit to discuss ways to make AI equitable in Global South

The AI Seoul Summit aims to address the equitable implementation of artificial intelligence technology in marginalized countries of the "Global South." It emphasizes inclusivity, safety, and innovation as the three pillars of global AI governance. Specifically, the summit seeks to facilitate discussions among developed countries on expanding AI in the Global South to bridge the digital divide. The event also prioritizes addressing the potential threats to national security posed by AI, such as the spread of fake news and deepfake technologies. The term "Global South" encompasses regions like Africa, South America, the Caribbean, Asia (excluding Israel, Japan, and South Korea), as well as Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand). The summit, co-hosted by South Korea and the United Kingdom, will involve a virtual session of leaders from the Group of Seven nations, Singapore, Australia, as well as heads of the UN, European Union, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The agenda includes focusing on responding to the risks and negative impacts associated with AI. Additionally, the summit will expand its scope to encompass inclusivity and innovation alongside safety, and a future summit in Europe is anticipated approximately every six months.
