BAT Rothmans vows to prevent nicotine use by minors

BAT Rothmans, the Korean unit of British American Tobacco, announced its commitment to intensify efforts in preventing underage individuals from using nicotine products as part of their campaign for World No Tobacco Day on May 31. The company expressed support for increased government measures to curb minors' access to nicotine and emphasized the crucial role of regulations in achieving this goal. BAT Rothmans' Country Manager Song Young-jae underscored the company's strict adherence to principles aimed at preventing the marketing and sale of nicotine products to minors, including displaying "19+" labels on product packages and advertisements. In observance of World No Tobacco Day, BAT Rothmans plans to implement stringent age verification on its e-commerce platforms and urge retailers to be vigilant in refraining from selling cigarettes to minors. Song emphasized the significance of robust enforcement of regulations and called for more active use of governmental enforcement powers to ensure that only adult consumers can purchase nicotine products, while also penalizing those who do not comply. Additionally, BAT Rothmans will continue its social campaigns to deter underage nicotine use and promote smokeless alternatives like vapes and nicotine pouches for adult smokers seeking to make the switch.
