[Bills in Focus] Tax exemption for strategic technologies, subcontract worker protection

Proposed Bill: Partial Amendment to the Labor Standards Act, introduced by Rep. Yang Kyung-kyoo of the Green Justice Party, aims to address the issue of indirect employment in larger companies. The bill highlights that companies with a higher number of employees tend to rely more on indirect employment, and it seeks to provide better protection for indirect and subcontracted workers, particularly in terms of employment succession. The proposed amendment ensures that subcontracted workers' rights and obligations are maintained when there are changes to the subcontractor in a contracting project. Pending Bill: Partial Amendment to the Act on Restriction on Special Cases Concerning Taxation, proposed by Rep. Yang Hyang-ja of the New Reform Party, focuses on extending the provision of R&D tax exemption for research and development expenses and facility investments related to national strategic technologies. The amendment aims to support the growth of domestic high-tech strategic industries by extending the tax exemption for six years until Dec. 31, 2030, in order to encourage investment in these critical areas.
