First lady attends exhibition by Ukrainian children

First Lady Kim Keon Hee made a rare public appearance at an exhibition featuring artwork by Ukrainian children, held at the former presidential compound of Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul. This marked her third public appearance after a five-month absence following a scandal involving a luxury bag gift. The exhibition was the result of Kim's efforts to bring Ukrainian children's drawings to South Korea, following her meeting with Ukraine's first lady, Olena Zelenska, during the NATO summit spouses' program in Lithuania in July 2023. Kim had been out of the public eye since December 15, amid allegations of illegally accepting a Christian Dior handbag from a Korean American pastor armed with a hidden camera in 2022. However, she recently broke her hiatus by joining President Yoon Suk Yeol's official luncheon with visiting Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and his wife, as well as accompanying Yoon's attendance at a ceremony celebrating the return of rare Buddhist relics from an American museum at a temple in Yangju. Her return to public view followed Yoon's apology for his wife's "unwise conduct" during a press conference held to mark the second anniversary of his taking office earlier this month.
