Gyeonggi governor urges sweeping changes to survive uncertainties


The Korea Herald's Global Business Forum was held with Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon and German Ambassador to Korea Georg Schmidt as the main speakers. Ambassador Schmidt highlighted the shared challenges faced by advanced economies like Germany and South Korea, including trade protectionism, geopolitical tensions, low fertility rates, and the climate crisis. He emphasized the need to maintain a liberal trade regime and prepare for demographic changes. Governor Kim, in his lecture, echoed the ambassador's views, emphasizing the need for Korea to adapt to the rapidly changing economic landscape. He highlighted Gyeonggi Province's significant economic contribution, particularly in semiconductor production, and outlined his goal of securing 100 trillion won in foreign investment during his tenure. He also emphasized the importance of AI and climate crisis efforts. The forum also saw the presence of other notable figures, including Jung Won-joo, chairman of Herald Media Group and Daewoo Engineering & Construction; Choi Jin-young, president of Herald Media Group; and Kim Tai-yoo, an honorary professor at Seoul National University. Governor Kim's speech emphasized the need for Korea to adapt to the changing economic landscape, while also highlighting Gyeonggi Province's significant economic contribution and outlining his goals for foreign investment and advancements in AI and climate crisis efforts. The forum also saw the presence of other notable figures, including Jung Won-joo, chairman of Herald Media Group and Daewoo Engineering & Construction; Choi Jin-young, president of Herald Media Group; and Kim Tai-yoo, an honorary professor at Seoul National University.
