HD Hyundai chair receives honorary doctorate from HUFS


Hyundai Chairman Kwon Oh-gap was awarded an honorary doctorate in business by Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in recognition of his significant contributions to the national economy and the company's success. Kwon, an alumnus of the university, has played a pivotal role in leading Hyundai Heavy Industries to become a globally competitive heavy industry leader through his strategic leadership and commitment to fostering a culture of sharing and social responsibility. His efforts have resulted in the company's substantial growth, with revenue reaching 61.33 trillion won and market capitalization rising to 50.1 trillion won. In addition to his business achievements, Kwon has been a trailblazer in corporate social responsibility, establishing initiatives such as the 1% Sharing Foundation, which sees employees donate 1 percent of their wages to support those in need. His dedication to both business and social impact was recognized with the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the 2023 Commerce & Industry Day ceremony. Kwon expressed his gratitude for the honorary doctorate, emphasizing his commitment to further contributing to the national economy and social integration with integrity and responsibility as a business leader.
