Hyundai Rotem, STX sign $60m armored vehicle deal with Peru

Hyundai Rotem and STX, both Korean defense companies, have signed a $60 million contract with the Peruvian state arms procurement agency to export K-808 White Tiger wheeled armored vehicles to Peru. This marks Korea's first export of armored vehicles to Latin America. Under the agreement, Hyundai Rotem and STX will deliver 30 units of K-808 vehicles to Peru by the end of 2024. Hyundai Rotem will handle the production of the eight-wheeled infantry transport vehicles, while STX will be responsible for delivering the armored vehicles to Peru. The Peruvian government plans to acquire a total of 120 armored vehicles, and Hyundai Rotem is the first company to supply such vehicles to the country. Additionally, Hyundai Rotem aims to secure more export orders for armored vehicles and hopes that this contract will open doors to the wider Latin American defense market. This deal follows another significant defense contract signed earlier in the year, where Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries secured a $463 million deal to construct four warships for the Peruvian Navy, marking the largest naval ship order placed by a Latin American country with a Korean shipbuilder.
