‘Kim desperately wanted to denuclearize,’ Moon writes in memoirs

Former President Moon Jae-in revealed in his recent memoir that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed his intention to keep nuclear weapons solely for self-defense and not for actual use. Moon emphasized Kim's desperation to denuclearize and his frustration with the lack of trust from the US and the international community. Moon's portrayal of Kim drew criticism from the opposition party, with Na Kyung-won accusing him of acting as a spokesperson for Kim and displaying naivete in his approach to North Korea's nuclear ambitions. Additionally, Moon shared his perspectives on other world leaders, highlighting former US President Donald Trump's positive remarks about their relationship and his appreciation for Trump's straightforwardness in diplomacy. He also described his interactions with the late former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, noting that Abe appeared inflexible in his stance despite his outward demeanor. In his memoir, Moon's insights into Kim's intentions and his experiences with other world leaders have sparked debate and criticism from political opponents.
