LG, UNESCO to develop online education course on AI ethics

Bae Kyung-hoon, chief of LG AI Research, and Kim Soo-hyun, director of UNESCO Asia and Pacific, recently joined forces to develop an AI ethics education course. The collaboration was formalized at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology in Seoul, as part of a strategic partnership between LG's AI think tank and UNESCO. As part of the agreement, an international advisory group of experts will be assembled within the year to work on the course, which is expected to be launched by the end of 2025. The course will be accessible to everyone through UNESCO's Global AI Ethics and Governance Observatory platform and will include ethical practice cases from various stakeholders to design educational programs for industry and policy applications. In addition to creating the course, LG and UNESCO also aim to build a global community for the ethical practice of AI and raise awareness of AI ethics through hosting international events and forums. Bae Kyung-hoon emphasized the importance of enhancing AI ethics awareness among professionals and policymakers in research and policy formulation to ensure the safety of AI. The project is expected to promote responsible AI development and deployment, as well as foster ethical innovation on a global scale.
