Moon says Korean Peninsula in 'crisis phase,' calls for efforts to solidify peace values

Former South Korean President Moon Jae-in warned that the security situation on the Korean Peninsula is currently in a "crisis" state, with the potential for military conflicts to erupt at any given moment. He emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts to prioritize peace and called for intergovernmental dialogues to address the escalating tensions. Moon expressed concern that the international environment has become increasingly confrontational, making it more challenging to restore communication and maintain the stability established by previous agreements, such as the 2018 inter-Korean tension reduction accord. During his term, Moon had been known for his efforts to promote cross-border rapprochement and lay the groundwork for lasting peace on the peninsula. However, his initiatives faced obstacles due to the prolonged deadlock in nuclear negotiations between the United States and North Korea. Despite this, Moon stressed the urgency of strengthening the value of peace and making concerted efforts to demonstrate peace in various ways on the Korean Peninsula. In a separate message, the leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, pledged to uphold the value of lasting peace, echoing Moon's call for continued efforts to promote peace in the region.
