Naver founder calls for different AI models to reflect cultural diversity

The founder of Naver Corp., which operates South Korea's largest internet portal, has urged the development of diverse artificial intelligence models that can understand and incorporate different cultural and environmental contexts across the world. Lee Hae-jin, Naver's global investment officer, emphasized the importance of creating AI models that offer a range of perspectives during the leaders' session of the AI Seoul Summit. The summit, attended by leaders from the Group of Seven countries and prominent tech industry figures, focused on the need for diverse and culturally sensitive AI development to support future generations' understanding of history and culture. Lee expressed concerns about the potential negative impact of a limited range of AI models on children, highlighting the need for technological support to create AI models that respect and understand the diverse cultures and values of different regions. Naver is set to unveil its AI Safety Framework next month as part of its commitment to promoting innovation and inclusiveness in AI technologies. Additionally, the AI Seoul Summit adopted a declaration promoting safe, innovative, and inclusive AI, and the AI Global Forum will convene to discuss strategies for effective AI governance.
