New Seoul High Prosecutors’ Office chief vows full-fledged probe into first lady

The new head of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office has vowed to continue the investigation into the luxury bag scandal involving first lady Kim Keon Hee, despite criticism from the opposition party over his appointment. This commitment follows a recent surprise personnel reshuffle by the Justice Ministry, which replaced the former chief of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, who was leading the investigation, with a close aide to President Yoon Suk Yeol. The new chief, Lee Chang-soo, assured reporters that the investigation would be conducted in accordance with the law and principles, and he pledged to take all necessary measures to prevent any disruptions to the probe. When asked about summoning the first lady for questioning, Lee mentioned that it was too early to provide details but promised to take necessary actions after reviewing the case. He also emphasized his 23-year career as a prosecutor and expressed disagreement with being labeled as "Yoon's aide," stating that such a description disregarded his long-standing dedication to his profession. Additionally, Justice Minister Park Sung-jae emphasized the legal authority to carry out such personnel changes and assured that the investigation would not be influenced by the reshuffle.
