On 15th anniversary of Roh's death, ruling party calls for bipartisanship

Ruling People Power Party interim leader Hwang Woo-yea urged political unity and bipartisan collaboration to honor the 15th anniversary of the late President Roh Moo-hyun's death. Emphasizing Roh's commitment to unity and compromise in politics, Hwang called for the new leadership to work together in realizing Roh's political vision. This call for unity comes amid heightened tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, particularly following President Yoon Suk Yeol's veto of a bill calling for a special counsel investigation into allegations of government interference in a military probe. The 15th annual memorial service for Roh was held in Bongha village, with thousands of attendees gathering to pay their respects. Hwang and People Power Party Floor Leader Rep. Choo Kyung-ho planned to meet with former President Moon Jae-in, marking the first meeting between the ruling party leadership and Moon since Yoon took office. Despite Hwang's hope for stronger bipartisan cooperation, the ruling party expressed regret over the Assembly Speaker's plan to hold a revote on the vetoed special counsel bill, criticizing the unilateral approach despite the requirement for political neutrality.
