Probe of first lady on Dior bag allegations set to begin

The top prosecutor has pledged to carry out a swift and thorough investigation into allegations that the first lady, Kim Keon Hee, illegally received a luxury Christian Dior bag as a gift from a Korean American pastor in 2022. This commitment follows the recent formation of a special task force to delve into the anti-graft violation accusations against the first lady, amid mounting pressure from the main opposition party to scrutinize multiple allegations against her. The investigation bill, which aims to probe the first lady's involvement in both anti-graft violations and a stock manipulation scandal, has been a topic of contention, with the main opposition party seeking to reintroduce it in the parliament. The probe stems from a video showing Kim receiving the Dior handbag, sparking concerns about potential breaches of anti-graft regulations. However, legal experts are skeptical about the likelihood of the first lady being convicted under the current circumstances. Despite the ongoing scrutiny, Kim has been notably absent from public appearances for several months, with her whereabouts remaining undisclosed. In a separate move, President Yoon appointed a former prosecutor to a senior presidential secretary position, prompting speculation about its connection to the allegations against the first lady, which Yoon dismissed by emphasizing its role in serving the people.
