Rival parties appoint new leadership to brace for next parliament


The Democratic Party of Korea and the main opposition party have both appointed new leaders in preparation for the upcoming parliament. The Democratic Party elected Rep. Park Chan-dae as its new floor leader, replacing Rep. Hong Ihk-pyo. Park, a close aide of main opposition leader Lee Jae-myung, plans to revisit bills vetoed by President Yoon Suk Yeol and aims to secure leadership roles on key parliamentary committees. Meanwhile, the ruling People Power Party appointed former Deputy Prime Minister Hwang Woo-yea as its new interim leader, following the resignation of the previous leader after the party's defeat in the parliamentary elections. Hwang has pledged to bring reform to the party and promote harmony among the presidential office, government, and rival parties.
