Ruling party interim leader appoints new leadership committee members

The new interim leader of the ruling party has announced the members of the emergency leadership committee who will assist in preparing the incoming lawmakers for the start of the new parliament. Hwang Woo-yea, the former deputy prime minister and current interim leader, has named several People Power Party representatives, including Yoo Sang-bum, Jun Joo-hyae, Eom Tae-young, and incoming lawmaker Kim Yong-tae, as members of the committee. Additionally, Rep. Jeong Jeom-sig has been appointed as the new chairman of the party's policy committee, automatically making Hwang a part of the leadership committee. The announcement on Sunday marked the completion of the nomination process for the emergency leadership committee, with the majority of the nominees being perceived as "pro-Yoon" politicians. The committee is expected to be officially launched after the members are formally approved at a national committee meeting scheduled for Monday, and it is anticipated to play a crucial role in swiftly preparing for the upcoming national convention, where the ruling party will select its new leader for the incoming parliament. This development comes after the former leader of the party's emergency leadership committee resigned following the party's significant defeat in the April 10 parliamentary elections.
