SM Entertainment contributes to urban biodiversity

SM Entertainment has partnered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to expand Kwangya Forest in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. The forest, initially established on 400 square meters of land in Seoul Forest in May 2023, will be expanded to 815 square meters. This expansion aims to conserve 14 additional types of natural growing shrubs and more than 2,900 species of herbaceous flowers. SM Entertainment has committed to providing financial support for the expansion and maintenance of the forest for the next five years, while the Seoul Metropolitan Government will provide the site for expansion and support with administrative work for project implementation. Additionally, SM Entertainment plans to enhance the forest with wood benches and eco-friendly lighting to create a comfortable rest area for visitors. Over the past two years, SM Entertainment has donated 89 million won ($65,254) to establish Kwangya Forest, which is currently home to over 50 kinds of trees and more than 1,400 kinds of herbaceous flowers. Jang Cheol-hyuk, Co-CEO of SM, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainable environment and society, stating, "We hope Kwangya Forest can become a shelter in which people can come to take a break comfortably." Kim In-sook, from the Seoul city government, welcomed SM Entertainment's efforts and expressed hope for more corporations to join in conserving urban biodiversity.
