SM, YG Entertainment’s K-pop groups benefit from troubles at Hybe

SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment are capitalizing on the current turmoil at Hybe, with their K-pop groups successfully seizing the spotlight from Hybe artists. A private message between Hybe Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and Ador CEO Min Hee-jin, in which Bang called for the destruction of SM Entertainment's popular girl band aespa, backfired as it generated public support for aespa instead. This led to a surge in interest and positive comments when aespa released their music video for "Supernova," propelling the group to break records on music charts and draw attention to their unique concepts. On the other hand, YG Entertainment's rookie girl band Babymonster initially struggled to achieve stardom, receiving criticism for their debut single "Batter Up." However, following a backlash against Hybe's girl band Le Sserafim for poor live vocals at Coachella, K-pop fans began to reevaluate Babymonster. Despite facing tough competition upon the release of their single "Sheesh," Babymonster recently climbed to No. 11 on Melon's Top 100 Chart, benefiting from the ongoing issues at Hybe and the renewed attention on their vocal skills compared to those of Le Sserafim. Overall, the controversies surrounding Hybe have inadvertently boosted the visibility and support for aespa and Babymonster, highlighting the impact of the current dynamics within the K-pop industry.
