Yoon apologizes for wife's 'unwise conduct'

President Yoon Suk Yeol expressed regret and issued an apology on Thursday for what he described as the "unwise conduct" of the first lady, Kim Keon Hee, in relation to allegations of her accepting a luxury bag illegally in 2022. During a press conference marking the second anniversary of his presidency, he acknowledged the concerns raised by his wife's actions and refrained from further comments, citing the ongoing prosecution investigation into the matter. He also addressed the opposition's calls for a special counsel investigation into separate allegations of stock price manipulation involving the first lady, characterizing such demands as a "political offensive." In addition to addressing the controversies surrounding the first lady, President Yoon Suk Yeol also fielded questions on a variety of political and foreign policy issues during the press conference. Prior to the conference, he delivered a national address from his office, outlining his initial two years in office and presenting plans for the upcoming three years. Notably, he announced plans to establish a new ministry dedicated to addressing the country's low birth rate, emphasizing the urgency of the issue and seeking cooperation from the opposition-controlled National Assembly in enacting the necessary legislative changes to establish the new ministry.
