Yoon calls for boosting trilateral trade, investment

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol highlighted the significance of advancing regional trade and investment among Korea, Japan, and China based on mutual respect and trust during a trilateral business summit in Seoul. Attended by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, the meeting took place at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry headquarters following their trilateral summit talks, the first in four years. Yoon stressed the need for governments and businesses from the three countries to strengthen regional trade and investment grounded in mutual respect and trust, while also addressing global issues such as climate change and promoting inclusive, shared growth with countries in the Global South. The trilateral business summit, attended by over 280 business leaders from the three countries, focused on economic revitalization, sustainable development, and private-level cooperation across various domains including digital transformation, education revitalization, green initiatives, and supply chain collaboration. The joint declaration issued after the ninth Korea-Japan-China Summit emphasized the commitment to fostering a "free, open, fair, non-discriminatory, transparent, inclusive and predictable" trade and investment environment, as well as keeping markets open and strengthening supply chain cooperation to prevent disruptions. The next trilateral business summit is scheduled to be held in Japan, continuing the tradition that began in Beijing in 2009.
