Yoon says will create new ministry to tackle low birth rate

President Yoon Suk Yeol delivered an address at Seoul Station on Thursday, marking the second anniversary of his presidency. During his speech, he announced plans to establish a new ministry aimed at addressing the country's low birth rate, which he described as a national emergency. The proposed ministry, tentatively named the "low birth response planning ministry," will be led by a deputy minister for social affairs and will be responsible for developing policies across various sectors such as education, labor, and welfare. President Yoon emphasized the need for comprehensive mobilization of the state's resources to combat the low birth rate and called for the active cooperation of the opposition-controlled National Assembly in amending the government organization law to facilitate the establishment of the new ministry. Following his address, he was scheduled to hold a press conference with reporters at the presidential office.
