Yoon vows to protect 'value of labor' on Labor Day


President Yoon Suk Yeol emphasized the importance of labor on Labor Day, expressing gratitude for the hard work and dedication of South Korea's 28.4 million workers. He pledged to safeguard the value of labor, promising to create safer and fairer workplaces and ensure that individuals can find fulfillment through their work. Meanwhile, two major umbrella unions organized large-scale rallies across the country to mark the occasion, with an estimated 33,000 participants in Seoul alone. The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions called for the government's resignation and advocated for increased labor rights, while the Federation of Korean Trade Unions urged improvements in various labor rights and opposed the government's plan to differentiate the minimum wage by business sector.
