Daewoo E&C extends overseas network to spur growth

Daewoo Engineering & Construction Chairman Jung Won-ju is actively working to broaden the Korean builder's global network in pursuit of fresh business prospects overseas, the company revealed on Tuesday. Since the builder was acquired by Jungheung Group in 2022, the Chairman has already visited 15 countries on 19 occasions and held nine meetings with foreign delegates visiting Korea. His efforts have focused on deepening existing connections in countries such as Nigeria, Vietnam, India, and Singapore, where Daewoo E&C is already established, as well as forging new ties in nations including the US, Canada, Turkmenistan, Rwanda, and Cambodia. Daewoo E&C aims to leverage this expanded international network to enhance its stature as a global construction company, emphasizing the importance of establishing local networks for undertaking construction projects led by overseas governments or public entities. The company also intends to diversify its business portfolio, with Chairman Jung highlighting urban development projects as pivotal for the company's future success, particularly emphasizing the potential of Daewoo E&C's involvement in the Starlake City project in Hanoi, Vietnam. Additionally, Daewoo E&C is eyeing new urban development projects in the US, Nigeria, Singapore, and Indonesia, with recent efforts including meetings with Nigerian government officials to explore urban development opportunities in the capital city Abuja and Lagos. The company sees global expansion as crucial for navigating challenges such as high interest rates and increasing construction material prices, and is committed to growing into a global developer in line with the evolving demands of the industry.
