Daewoo E&C wins international approval for offshore wind turbine foundation

Daewoo Engineering & Construction and its Dutch partner, Monobase Wind, have developed a floating offshore wind turbine foundation, known as the MSPAR foundation, which has received approval in principle from Det Norske Veritas, an internationally accredited certification body. This partnership began in 2021 and led to the successful completion of model tests for the MSPAR foundation in March 2022, as well as the acquisition of an international patent in September of the same year. The foundation is a combination of semi-submersible and spar foundations and is designed for complete assembly at the quayside, providing support for 15-megawatt offshore wind turbines in water depths of over 90 meters. It is also engineered to withstand challenging sea conditions, able to remain stable at wind speeds of up to 61 meters per second and wave heights of up to 11.5 meters. Following the AIP for the foundation model, Daewoo E&C can now participate in offshore wind projects, such as those in Ulsan. The company aims to continue its research and development efforts in renewable energy and increase its involvement in related business projects.
