Denmark recalls 3 types of Buldak ramyeon for extreme spiciness

The Danish government has issued a recall for three types of spicy ramyeon Buldak products produced by Korean manufacturer Samyang Roundsquare due to their excessively high levels of spiciness. The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, part of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, mandated the recall, citing concerns over the risk of acute poisoning from the high capsaicin content in the noodles. The affected products are Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Ramen 3x Spicy, Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Ramen 2x Spicy, and Samyang Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen Stew Type, while other products in the Buldak series remain available. Samyang Roundsquare is engaging in discussions with the Danish government to address the recall, expressing a commitment to cooperate in safeguarding Danish consumers. The company indicated that the recall appears to be driven by worries about the extreme spiciness potentially causing health issues, rather than any quality defects in the product. This marks the first instance of a recall related to spiciness for the widely popular instant noodles globally. The Buldak series has gained international attention for its intense spiciness, with the original series measuring 8,706 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). Notably, the Scoville Heat Units represent the dilution needed for the concentration of capsaicinoids to become undetectable, with a jalapeno pepper, for example, measuring at 2,000-8,000 SHUs.
