Former land, justice ministers to run for ruling party chief

Former Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, Won Hee-ryong, has announced his candidacy for the chairmanship of the ruling People Power Party. His decision, declared by his camp on Friday, comes as he emphasizes the need for the party and government to collaborate towards implementing changes and reforms in line with public sentiment expressed in the general election. Joining the race for party leader is Han Dong-hoon, who led the People Power Party through the recent National Assembly election. Han, a former justice minister and close ally of President Yoon Suk Yeol, made his official announcement on the same day as Won. Observers note that this simultaneous decision may be seen as an effort to underscore the differences between their respective messages and positions. Additionally, other contenders for the party leadership include prominent lawmakers Rep. Yoon Sang-hyun and Rep. Na Kyung-won.
