GS Ventures hosts tech day for battery startups

GS Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of GS Group, successfully organized the GSV Tech Day at the GS Tower in southern Seoul. Launched in September, the event serves as a platform for startups in GS Ventures' investment portfolio to collaborate and share technology. This year's focus was on battery technologies, with eight startups, including Mitra Chem from Silicon Valley, showcasing their innovations. The event also saw participation from executives of GS Energy, GS Engineering & Construction, and other GS subsidiaries. Mitra Chem, recognized for its LFP batteries after an investment from General Motors, was discovered by GS Futures, GS Group's venture capital arm in California. The remaining startups, including a Japanese company, Goiku Battery, were identified and invested in by GS Ventures. The event also sparked discussions on business commercialization, with executives from GS Energy and GS E&C sharing insights on their respective battery recycling projects. Since its establishment in 2022, GS Ventures has been collaborating with GS companies to form venture funds and invest in startups, aligning with GS Group Chairman Huh Tae-soo's vision of emphasizing future growth through startups and ventures as a strategic focus.
