Hyundai Rotem wins bullet-train export deal from Uzbekistan

For the first time, a Korean high-speed rail vehicle is set to be used internationally, with Uzbekistan as the destination. Hyundai Rotem has announced that it has secured a 270 billion won ($194 million) contract to supply and maintain power-distributed high-speed trains for Uzbek Railways in partnership with the Korea Railroad Corporation. These trains, similar to Korea's KTX-Eum, will run at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour and will consist of seven carriages with a total of 389 seats. This deal marks the first introduction of power-distributed trains in Uzbekistan, offering enhanced acceleration and deceleration as well as increased cabin space. Hyundai Rotem will customize the trains to meet Uzbekistan's specific railway conditions, including wider tracks and adapted power units and bogies. The high-speed trains will operate on routes totaling 1216 kilometers, connecting Tashkent with Bukhara, Bukhara with Hiva, and Misken with Nukus. This contract signifies the entry of Korean high-speed rail technology into the global market, following over 30 years of investment and development in high-speed rail technology in Korea, with the aim of exporting it globally.
