Korea, Turkmenistan forge stronger ties on gas fields, smart cities


Business leaders and government officials from South Korea and Turkmenistan have committed to enhancing collaboration in infrastructure and digital development during a bilateral business forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan's capital. The forum, organized by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and chaired by SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, attracted over 250 participants, including President Yoon Suk Yeol and prominent Korean business figures. The event also saw the presence of key government officials from South Korea, including Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun and Land Minister Park Sang-woo, indicating the high-level engagement between the two nations. The forum emphasized the existing cooperation between Korea and Turkmenistan in the energy sector and explored opportunities for expanding collaboration into shipbuilding, digital technology, and medical fields. Additionally, it highlighted Turkmenistan's smart city initiatives as a focal point for potential joint projects, leveraging the strengths of both countries. Notably, Korean companies have been actively involved in significant projects in Turkmenistan, with orders totaling $4.99 billion over the past decade, underscoring the importance of Turkmenistan's market and the substantial contribution of Korean enterprises to the country's development.
