Main opposition calls for revival of inter-Korean dialogue for security

The leader of South Korea's main opposition party has urged for the reestablishment of inter-Korean dialogue to ensure peace and security on the Korean peninsula. This call comes in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Pyongyang, raising concerns about increased military cooperation between Russia and North Korea. The opposition leader emphasized the need to restore the inter-Korean dialogue channel by leveraging diplomatic security dialogues and trilateral summits, highlighting the importance of peace as the ultimate form of security. Furthermore, the opposition leader cautioned against the potential threat to peace on the peninsula posed by South Korea's military strength and its alliance with the United States. He stressed the significance of cooperation between ruling and opposition parties to address key security issues and pledged support for the government's security policies. Meanwhile, the ruling party has been divided in its response to the heightened tension, with some members denouncing North Korea's recent provocations and calling for strict countermeasures. However, the party as a whole has refrained from commenting on the Putin-Kim Jong-un meeting and has been boycotting plenary meetings in protest against unilateral decisions made by the opposition-led Assembly.
