North Korea claims its own EV brand with improbable 720km range

North Korea has made ambitious claims about its new electric vehicle, the "Madusan," boasting an unlikely maximum range of 720 kilometers. The announcement, featured in a video on the YouTube channel "Paektu TV From Paektu to Halla," has drawn skepticism and curiosity from both South Korean and international observers. The video, which showcases the Madusan-branded electric car model driving in the rain, also highlights the Madusan Economic Federation's diverse trade activities, including importing and selling electric vehicles in collaboration with leading overseas manufacturers. However, these claims have been met with doubt due to the significant disparity between the reported range of the Madusan EV and that of established global EV manufacturers like Tesla and Hyundai. Furthermore, the design of the Madusan EV, including features like a front grille unnecessary for electric vehicles, has raised questions about its authenticity and performance. Even if North Korea is simply rebranding Chinese electric vehicles, there is currently no known Chinese EV in the market with an official range exceeding 700 kilometers. Overall, the video appears aimed at positioning the Madusan Economic Federation as a major player in North Korea's technological and economic advancement, despite the lack of independent verification of their claims.
