Posco International breaks ground for its Polish motor core plant

Posco International held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new traction motor core plant in Poland on Tuesday. The company announced that construction of the plant, located in Brzeg, Opole Voivodeship, began this week. The traction motor core is a critical component in the powertrain systems of most eco-friendly vehicles, excluding those powered by traditional combustion engines. The new factory, set to be completed in mid-2025 on a 100,000-square-meter land plot, aims to commence commercial production of traction motor cores in the second half of next year. The Polish plant will initially produce traction motor cores for approximately 1 million electric vehicles manufactured by Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors in Turkey and Slovakia. Posco International also plans to establish partnerships with European EV makers and increase the plant's annual motor core production to 1.2 million units by 2030. The company views the establishment of a production base in Europe as a significant step in advancing its position as a global eco-friendly car parts supplier, anticipating a rise in demand for EVs and hybrid vehicles in the region. Additionally, Posco International aims to boost its annual traction motor core production capacity to 7.1 million units by 2030, representing 10 percent of the global market for traction motor cores.
