Samsung's Lee meets with CEOs of global tech giants in US

Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong recently held meetings with the leaders of Meta Platforms Inc., Amazon.com Inc., and Qualcomm Inc. in the United States to discuss future technologies and potential business collaborations. During his two-week business trip, Lee visited Mark Zuckerberg's home in Palo Alto, California, for talks with Meta's founder and CEO, focusing on enhancing cooperation in future information technology and software sectors, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality. This meeting marked their second encounter in 2024, following Zuckerberg's visit to Seoul in February. Additionally, Lee met with Amazon CEO Andy Jassy at the company's headquarters in Seattle, Washington, to discuss core business areas such as generative AI and cloud computing. Amazon's plans to enter the generative AI market and innovate its cloud-based AI services, with a significant investment plan, were also part of the discussion. Furthermore, Lee sought ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the booming AI chip market during his meeting with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon at Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions America in San Jose, California. The purpose of Lee's U.S. trip was to strengthen his global network, assess the company's future technological competitiveness, and develop detailed future business strategies. Upon his return to Seoul, Lee briefly commented on the trip, emphasizing the need to work hard but did not provide specific details on any potential meetings with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang or progress in securing foundry projects.
