Seoul vows strong action against NK trash balloons

Over the weekend, North Korea sent balloons filled with trash and propaganda over to South Korea, sparking a strong response from the South Korean government. The National Security Adviser condemned the act as a despicable and irrational provocation, vowing to take "unendurable" action in response. The South Korean government also warned against further provocations, expressing their determination to impose severe consequences on North Korea. They did not specify the exact measures but did not rule out the possibility of resuming anti-North Korea loudspeaker broadcasts along the border. In addition to the balloon launches, North Korea also attempted to jam GPS signals in South Korea's northwestern region for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday. Despite these provocations, the fallen balloons, which contained trash, excrement, and propaganda leaflets, did not cause direct harm to safety, and the GPS jamming attacks did not result in any significant disruptions. Furthermore, North Korea had also fired several short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea east of the Korean Peninsula on Thursday, escalating tensions in the region. The South Korean and US defense chiefs jointly condemned North Korea's actions, citing violations of the Armistice Agreement and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
