Seventeen named UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassadors, in first as K-pop act

K-pop sensation Seventeen's bandmates were designated as Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth by UNESCO, marking the first instance of a K-pop act assuming this role. The 13-member boy band was recognized by their agency, Pledis Entertainment, for consistently sharing their growth stories through music and their international impact on young people since their debut in 2015. UNESCO's Director General, Audrey Azoulay, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing how Seventeen has inspired and supported young people globally with their music and positive influence. The band is set to attend an appointment ceremony at UNESCO's headquarters in Paris on June 26, where they will deliver an acceptance speech and discuss upcoming activities with Azoulay. Seventeen has a history of engagement with UNESCO, having previously collaborated on the #GoingTogether campaign to advocate for education and participating in the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris. The group's involvement in charitable initiatives, positive messaging, and meaningful societal contributions has solidified their global reputation. Their music is renowned for delivering messages of resilience and unity, encouraging young audiences to persevere through challenges in pursuit of their aspirations. Additionally, their joint efforts with UNESCO have resulted in significant accomplishments, such as establishing community learning centers in East Timor and supporting education in Malawi.
