SK, China's Geely partner on EV innovation


SK Inc., the investment arm of South Korea's SK Group, has announced a partnership with China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group to advance green mobility initiatives, particularly focusing on electric vehicle batteries and automotive electronics. This collaboration aims to combine SK's business development capabilities with Geely's expertise in mobility technology, with the partnership being formalized through the signing of a framework agreement on Wednesday. SK Group's executive vice chairman, Chey Jae-won, played a significant role in facilitating the partnership through his global networking efforts. Under the agreement, SK and Geely will explore various green mobility initiatives, including the development of advanced electric vehicle batteries, improving charging infrastructure, and innovating automotive electronics. Geely, established in 1986, is the owner of prominent automotive brands such as Zeekr, Volvo, and Polestar, and reported total vehicle sales of 2.79 million units last year, with eco-friendly vehicle sales surpassing 980,000 units. Both SK Inc. and Geely expressed their enthusiasm for the collaboration, with SK Inc.'s CEO Jang Yong-ho highlighting the opportunity to strengthen their position in the global EV and green energy investment portfolios, while Geely's CEO Li Donghui emphasized the chance to advance sustainable mobility and provide a better, sustainable vehicle experience for customers worldwide.
