Sky Labs’ ring-type blood pressure monitor eyes US, Europe debuts

South Korean health care startup, Sky Labs, has announced its plans to introduce its ring-type blood pressure monitor, CART BP, in the US and Europe next year. This follows the device's successful launch in Korea in July, where it was approved for coverage by the National Health Insurance Service. CART BP is the first ring-type medical device to receive approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, enabling patients to access insurance benefits when prescribed at hospitals. With a rental cost of about 15,000 to 18,000 won ($10-$13) at hospitals, the actual expense for patients is reduced to approximately 5,000 won. During a press conference in Seoul, Sky Labs CEO Jack Lee highlighted the device's ability to provide detailed blood pressure records, aiding in the early and optimized diagnosis of health conditions related to hypertension. CART BP, a cuffless blood pressure monitor, allows patients to conveniently track their blood pressure records by wearing the ring and accessing the data through an application powered by artificial intelligence. The device's continuous monitoring capabilities offer valuable insights for medical workers in diagnosing various forms of hypertension, such as white coat, masked, morning, and nocturnal hypertension. Sky Labs is also in discussions with Omron, a leading blood pressure monitor manufacturer, for the overseas launch of CART BP. The company is conducting additional clinical studies to secure regulatory approvals in Europe and the US, with the aim of launching in Europe by the end of this year and in the US by the end of next year. Plans for launches in China and Japan are also in progress.
