We must control new technology: KAIST president

Lee Kwang-hyung, president of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, delivered a speech at Innovate Korea 2024 in Daejeon, emphasizing the ethical control of new artificial intelligence technology. He highlighted the concept of "humanism 2.0," noting the coexistence of ordinary humans, physically and mentally enhanced individuals, and AI. He expressed the need for Korea to take a leading role in shaping humanity's future and addressed concerns about AI control, foreign influence, and job displacement. To address these concerns, Lee stressed the importance of developing technologies to manage the evolving human-AI relationship, fostering global cooperation for technological leadership, and creating jobs in advanced technology. Notably, he concluded his presentation early to join a performance with Ghutto's, a student hip-hop club at KAIST, embracing his moniker as a "weird professor" and reflecting his belief that unconventional thinkers can drive change in the world.
