Yoon on state visit to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan next week

President Yoon Suk Yeol is set to undertake a state visit to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan next week in order to bolster South Korea's economic connections with Central Asian nations, as announced by the presidential office on Friday. Yoon and first lady Kim Keon Hee will commence their trip on Monday and are expected to conclude their visit on June 15. The South Korean government aims to combine the country's technological innovation with the economic potential of Central Asian nations through a foundation of strong trust and solidarity, according to Kim Tae-hyo, first deputy director of the presidential National Security Office. During the visit, President Yoon will engage in discussions with the leaders of the three countries to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral partnerships, encompassing areas such as energy, chemical plant construction, healthcare, education, and critical minerals supply. In alignment with the visits, South Korea is planning to initiate a six-way summit next year with Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, and host the initial sessions in South Korea. Additionally, President Yoon will advance South Korea's diplomatic presence through the K-Silkroad Initiative, with a focus on expanding multilateral relationships in the region, which is home to a significant Korean diaspora known as Koryoin.
