Yoon pledges to enhance critical mineral partnership with Africa


President Yoon Suk Yeol addressed the Korea-Africa Business Summit in Seoul, emphasizing South Korea's intention to establish a critical mineral partnership with key African nations for mutually beneficial resource development. During the summit, a joint declaration was adopted by Korea and delegates from 48 African countries to enhance trade, investment, and collaboration on critical minerals and development projects. Yoon also highlighted plans to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement and the Trade and Investment Promotion Framework with more African countries to facilitate smoother trade and investment activities. Additionally, he expressed a commitment to expanding partnerships in renewable energy sources and providing tailored development cooperation to meet the needs of Official Development Assistance recipient countries. South Korea aims to increase its Official Development Assistance to around $10 billion by 2030 and provide export financing of about $14 billion to support Korean companies' trade and investment expansion in Africa. In his keynote speech, President Yoon outlined South Korea's commitment to forming a Critical Minerals Partnership with major African countries, aiming to expand mutually beneficial resource cooperation. He also expressed the hope for increasing partnerships in transitioning to renewable energy sources and pledged to provide tailored development cooperation to meet the demands of Official Development Assistance recipient countries within Africa. Additionally, South Korea aims to expand its Official Development Assistance to approximately $10 billion by 2030 and provide export financing of about $14 billion to support Korean companies' trade and investment expansion in Africa. President Yoon also held bilateral meetings with heads of state from Mauritania, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Comoros, Botswana, and Eswatini during the summit.
