[Bills in Focus] Shareholders protection, offshore wind power support

Proposed Bill: Partial Amendment to the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act, introduced by Rep. Kang Hoon-sik of the Democratic Party of Korea, aims to address the issue of general shareholders suffering losses in stock acquisition-type mergers. The bill mandates that acquiring companies make a tender offer for the remaining equity after the acquisition to protect general shareholders from incurring losses during such transactions. This amendment seeks to ensure that general shareholders have the opportunity to sell their stocks at the same premium price as the majority shareholders, thereby mitigating their financial losses in merger and acquisition situations. Proposed Bill: Special Act for Planned Offshore Wind Farms and Industry Promotion Act, proposed by Rep. Kim So-hee of the People Power Party, focuses on the development and expansion of offshore wind power projects in response to the climate crisis. The bill outlines a comprehensive government-led location planning and support system to facilitate the development of offshore wind power projects and promote the offshore wind power industry in Korea. This special act aims to position offshore wind energy as a key energy resource for the country and contribute to addressing the challenges posed by the climate crisis.
