Cho Kuk reelected as leader of minor Rebuilding Korea Party

Former Justice Minister Cho Kuk secured a second term as the leader of the minor Rebuilding Korea Party during a convention held in Suwon, south of Seoul. His reelection was virtually uncontested, as he received an overwhelming 99.9 percent approval from party members, with no other candidates running for the leadership position. Cho initially formed the party in March ahead of the general elections in April, and despite resigning earlier this month to seek reelection, he was able to reclaim his leadership role. Following the April elections, Cho's party secured 12 parliamentary seats, with the former Justice Minister emphasizing the need to hold President Yoon Suk Yeol accountable for perceived incompetence and misconduct. In his address to party members, Cho vowed to expose the alleged wrongdoings of the Yoon government and illustrate the consequences of what he referred to as "prosecution dictatorship." Cho, once regarded as a promising figure in politics during the former Moon Jae-in government, experienced a fall from grace due to a series of corruption scandals involving his family.
