Democratic Party pushes multiple impeachment bills

The main opposition Democratic Party of Korea has proposed a set of bills to impeach a high-level government official and four prosecutors who have investigated cases related to party figures. The Democratic Party, which holds the majority of seats in the Assembly, introduced these impeachment bills without the support of the ruling People Power Party. The potential impeachments are seen as a move to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol, with candidates vying for party leadership positions pledging to oust the president from office. The Democratic Party's push for impeachments has been met with resistance from the ruling party, with plans for filibusters to protest the impeachment bills. The main target of these impeachment efforts is to protect former party Chair Rep. Lee Jae-myung, who is facing criminal allegations. There are also claims that the Democratic Party seeks to control the investigations into Lee's alleged crimes. Meanwhile, the presidential office has indicated that impeaching President Yoon is not currently feasible unless there is evidence of a violation of the law. The political turmoil caused by these impeachment motions has been criticized for paralyzing the political arena and obstructing legislative processes.
