Dior bag in first lady's scandal stored by presidential office: official

Presidential chief of staff Chung Jin-seok revealed during a parliamentary hearing that the controversial luxury Christian Dior bag, at the center of an antigraft law violation scandal involving the first lady, is currently being kept in its original condition within the presidential office. The bag, allegedly gifted to the first lady by Korean American Pastor Choi Jae-young, is valued at 3 million won ($2,200) and has reportedly remained unused. Despite requests to inspect the bag, Chung emphasized that legal steps are required due to the restricted access and heavy security in the presidential office. The scandal emerged when spy cam footage showing Pastor Choi handing the Dior bag to the first lady was released by a local news outlet. This incident stirred public outrage and became a significant issue before the recent general election. The improper solicitation and graft act prohibits public officials and their spouses from receiving gifts exceeding 1 million won at a time, or a total of 3 million won within a fiscal year from the same person. Currently, Pastor Choi is facing scrutiny from both the police and prosecution for various charges related to the Dior bag scandal, including trespassing, illegal filming, and making illicit demands in exchange for the gift.
