Ex-NASA researcher nominated as new science minister


Former NASA researcher Yu Sang-im has been nominated as the new minister of science and ICT, with the presidential office touting his extensive research experience and expertise in the field. Graduating from Seoul National University and obtaining a Ph.D. from Iowa State University, Yu has held various research positions before becoming a professor at Seoul National University in 1998. In response to his nomination, Yu expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges in the science and technology sector and leading innovation in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. The presidential office introduced Yu as the ideal candidate to steer the country's science and technology policies amid the ongoing advanced technology revolution. At 65 years old, Yu brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, having worked at esteemed institutions such as NASA's Ames Research Center and Japan's Railway Technical Research Institute. Additionally, it is worth noting that Yu is the elder brother of Yu Sang-bum, a member of the National Assembly, and actor Yu Oh-seong.
